An Automated and Innovative Data Processing System for EUVE
Abstract
Data from the Extreme Ultraviolet Explorer (EUVE ) is processed and prepared for distribution to scientists by means of an automated data processing system. For conversion into useful and standard formats, raw EUVE data require several complicated data processing steps. Because EUVE data sets are typically very large, these processing steps are time-consuming and computer-intensive. In order to more quickly and easily process EUVE data, an automated and innovative ``batch" system has been implemented. This system is an important component of CEA's commitment to rapid and low-cost EUVE user support. The cornerstone of the batch system is a relational database that provides information to the processing system in a reliable way, and is used to receive status information from the system as it performs the required processing steps. This integration of software with a relational database is the primary manner in which the system achieves its autonomy and speed. This poster will describe the batch system: the innovative usage of the relational database, the interaction between the database and the system software, and the unique usage of a WWW-based user interface. This work has been supported by NASA contract NAS5-29298.
